Joint & Muscle Treatment

It’s probably fair to say that chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck problems but you might be interested to know that chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent problems of the entire musculoskeletal system (bones, joints & muscles).
It may be that you are experiencing general aches and pains arising from your muscles or joints, or perhaps the feeling is more like a spasm or cramp. Shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles and even the small joints in your hands and feet can all give rise to such symptoms. Muscle tension can then develop in reaction to this, which can become a problem in itself.

Muscle And Joint Assessmemt

Through a proper assessment our chiropractors at Canary Wharf Chiropractic will get to the bottom of your problem to see if they can help you and, if so, they will use a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility. This may include some massage techniques on muscles, or mobilisation of joints, or perhaps some acupuncture. You will probably be given some exercises to do at home so you recover quicker. The combination of joint & muscle treatment techniques used will vary from person to person and from problem to problem. Sometimes the solution to your problem is simple and you will get back to normal quickly with some straightforward muscle and joint treatment. But sometimes it is more complicated and the process of recovery can take time. A lot depends on what the problem is exactly. Take the hip joint, for example. Imagine you have been experiencing some hip discomfort for a few days, but never before, and, after a doing some tests, we found that the joint was simply not moving properly. You would very likely need a minimal amount of treatment. However, if you had been experiencing significant pain that had been going on for some time it would be likely you would need much more treatment. Not that that means you wouldn’t recover, it would just probably take longer. But we like a challenge! We will always do our best to help you feel better as soon as possible. Book an appointment today. Even an arthritic hip can be made to feel better. With the correct choice of treatment used in combination with core arthritis treatments and exercise it is very possible to feel less pain and have more movement in your hip. The same can be said of knees. Rather than seeing this as a cure for arthritis (which it is not) it should be seen as a possible way of managing symptoms for as long as the treatment remains effective. You will of course be able to ask questions about what is involved and you will be able to choose the type of treatment that is carried out. Once you are happy to proceed you will be asked to give your written consent to treatment, which can be carried out there and then. The whole process from start to finish takes up to one hour. How many sessions of treatment you will need will depend on what the problem is, how bad it is, how long you have had it and how much improvement you want to achieve. A session or two might be enough to make a big enough difference to you, although this may only provide a short-term fix. Three or four sessions usually provides a better solution in very straightforward cases, but you could find that 10 to 12 sessions is recommended if the problem is predicted to be stubborn to alleviate. But you could say, on average for our clients, five or six sessions are usually carried out. However, how many sessions you actually have is always up to you! You can stop treatment whenever you like and you will never be asked to commit to a minimum number. All we will do is make recommendations. Please know that we will be upfront with you if we are unable to help and you will be referred to the appropriate health professional such as your GP or a specialist. Although such referrals are uncommon we are always on the lookout for problems that we cannot treat. Chiropractors are trained to recognise the signs and symptoms of such problems and no case is ever assumed to be straightforward until it is concluded otherwise. All details of your first and subsequent visits will be kept as part of your clinical notes. These are strictly confidential and nobody will be allowed to see your records without your permission but you will always be entitled to copies.
