Chiropractic is a healthcare profession concerned with diagnosing and treating mostly musculoskeletal issues, particularly those related to the spine, such as back pain and neck pain. The care provided by chiropractors often involves manual (hands on) techniques to work on the spine and joints of the body, as well as the muscles and other soft tissues, to improve movement and function and reduce pain.

The chiropractors at Canary Wharf Chiropractic also use a range of other techniques alongside advice on self-help and exercises to provide you with a rounded package of care to enhance your speed of recovery.

Back pain and neck pain are conditions commonly treated by chiropractors but they can also help you with certain types of headaches, joint and muscle problems, and sporting aches and pains. They are also able to assess posture-related problems and help in the prevention of migraines.
A chiropractic adjustment – also known as manipulation – involves applying a quick but very controlled force to a joint (including those in your spine) to improve movement and function and thereby reduce pain or discomfort. You might hear a pop or a click, like when you crack your knuckles, which is simply the harmless noise of gas bubbles popping in the fluid of joints as pressure is released.
Chiropractic care is very safe when carried out by properly qualified and registered chiropractors (which we are!). At Canary Wharf Chiropractic we will take the time to get to know you and understand the issue you have before talking through the best treatment options available to you. Although we will make recommendations the treatment you have is entirely your choice.
During your first visit your chiropractor will ask about your current condition and also your medical history and overall health. We like to be thorough in what we do so we allow plenty of time for this. Once we know what we are dealing with and you are comfortable going ahead you can have your first treatment in the same session. Treatment and advice continues if needed over follow-up sessions.

The number of sessions needed varies but to put it simply it is usually based on what the problem is, how bad it is and how long you have had it. Other factors will have a bearing as well, such as how the problem responds to treatment and how well you follow advice. The closer you follow advice the fewer sessions you will need.

Of course what has a very strong bearing on how many sessions you will need is ultimately what your goal is. You might be happy after a few sessions, or maybe several more than that, or you might be looking for ongoing care. Whatever your goals, research tells us that we certainly want to be seeing improvement within three to four sessions.

You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor, although you might wish to discuss it with your GP or other health provider if you have any concerns. If you wish to use private health insurance to cover the cost of seeing a chiropractor you might need a referral in this case, but you will need to discuss this with them.
Absolutely, but it is important to let us know what other treatment you are having so we can work with it. In many cases a combined approach can be very beneficial, although it is not always necessary.
Due to the wide range of techniques and methods that chiropractors can use, people of all ages can benefit from chiropractic care. We know that what suits a child might not suit a big and strong rugby player, just as their care wouldn’t suit somebody older. Recommended treatment options are different for each individual and we will discuss with you what we think is best fully taking into account your preferences.

In the UK, it is required of all chiropractors to be registered with the General Chiropractic Council, which all of our chiropractors most certainly are! This ensures they are properly qualified and are safe and competent at what they do. Aside from checking this, you might want to read reviews and ask friends and family for recommendations.

It’s good to bear in mind that each chiropractor is an individual and is different (we are not all the same) so you should look at their experience and areas of interest to see if it suits what you are after.

And finally it should be clear to you how much a visit is going to cost and what you will get, particularly in terms of time and value, so do your research!

There are many chiropractors in Canary Wharf. To find a reliable one you can search online and read and compare patient reviews. Word-of-mouth recommendations are always important, so it’s worth asking friends, family or colleagues if they have seen a chiropractor in the area.

Sometimes your GP or insurance company may make a recommendation, or they might have an ongoing working relationship with them providing referrals.

Being registered with the General Chiropractic Council is required of all chiropractors, but also being associated with professional bodies such as the British Chiropractic Association or the Royal College of Chiropractors shows certain professional standards are aimed for and achieved.
